TRIVIAL PURSUIT - Trixy Edition

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Side note: Mi Tico has been IM’ng me. Giddyness. Hehe. Haven’t felt like that in, err, two months. Kidding. Hope to see him again soon. For now, I’m content with his ocassional greets and mini Espanol lessons.. Uno, dos, tres;)

Today my team and I joined this trivia challenge at work. I’ve never been a trivia person, and it has always been my frustration to have never made it to the finals of our Most Well-Informed Student quizzes back in high school. Hehe. Anyhoo, as I told my team, there is nothing wrong in trying. What is a sin is to never try at all. Besides, I have no shame when it comes to trying to do new things. Losing does not faze me much. Perhaps it’s because of experience, perhaps, as we would say it in Cebuano, baga lang gyud kog nawong.. Hahaha. Needless to say, we didn’t win the challenge, but I’m glad that I do know a thing or two after all. My fingers were just not fast enougg ;)

Enough of that. I was reading Fudzy’s blog and she thought I might answer this personal trivial pursuit. These days, I don’t normally do, as time doing blogs and stuff seem to become fewer and fewer, but in spirit of today’s highlight (yes, because this is the 1st time in years I’ve tried something like that, and it was fun), I decided to do the trivia :)

Seven things that scare me: death of my loved ones, being mugged in a parking lot, my condo broken into while I’m there, being caught in a fire, having car trouble in an isolated place, creepy creatures (snakes, bats, etc)/bugs/roaches, ugly fish served as food (e.g. hito)

Seven things I like the most: walking barefoot on sand, biking (on flat ground, hehe), travelling, "deep" conversations with good friends and family, watching art films/no-nonsense films (depending on mood), trying out new restos, watching sunsets

Seven random facts about me: I’ve been under the knife (but not for reasons you would think), I like expirementing with my hair, I’ve been to Costa Rica and wanted to stay there for good, I can’t cook to save my life (Ok, I can, if you consider microwaving tuna), I can’t drive a M/T auto, I hate being in hospitals or cemeteries, I’m addicted to Vicks (which I found out, I share with quite a few other people)

Seven important things in our bedroom: a reading lamp, my pillows (lots of ‘em), blanket (even if it’s the middle of summer), books/magazines, aircon/fan, my lotion, Vicks (can’t sleep without it)

Seven things I plan to do before I die: travel all continents (at least a couple of countries per continent), go to at least thirty islands around the Philippines (excluding of course, the Hundred Islands in Pangasinan), publish an article in a magazine/newspaper (a book is too much, hehe), learn a new language, have kids (actually, i just want one, but subject to change, and if I’ll be blessed..), learn to swim, buy a house by the beach…

Seven things I can do: sing, dance, write (not so much now, but i can if i put my heart into it.. hehe), lead teams and manage projects (i’ve done so since grade school), speak in public without getting stage fright, bring my car to a mechanic, cook rice (damn this one is the hardest to fill..)

Seven things I can’t do: cook a decent meal, drill holes for my curtain rod, change a flat tire (or any car-related debugging), tell a joke, eat ampalaya and bean sprouts (more like I won’t do), bike uphill on an intermediate trail (not yet), sleep normally (i’m insomniac)

Seven things that attract me to the opposite sex: cute lips, assertiveness (i like men who are not afraid to get what they want, of course, within social and ethical boundaries), streetsmart-ness (hehe)/intelligence, a good sense of humor, creativity (such as knowing how to play an instrument, someone who can write or take good photos, etc..), one who can dance (preferably), strong hands but not too rough/nice fingers…

Seven Several things I say the most: nye, ganyan, (a lot of curse words like *ngna, f***, hahaha, sorry), actually (and i really hate myself for it), my gosh, gagu

Seven Six celeb crushes (whether local or foreign): Collin Farell, Jude Law, Borgy Manotoc, Richard (or something, from Session Road), Gael Garcia, Usher

Seven people you want to see take this quiz: Hmm.. my sisters, Ann and Eyenne, Rochelle, RJ…….

OVERRATED

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

My baby sis, Eyenne, who is still based in Cebu, dropped by Manila with my bro-in-law, on their way to their honeymoon. She has been here a few times but never really liked it here, which is why she opted to go back. I can understand of course. If I can turn back time, I think I would also have stayed in Cebu. (Ok, so maybe, not really).

Anyhoo, I fetched them at the airport last Sunday @ 8AM, just having 4 hours of sleep as I was out the previous night to party some. Hehe. Then we went directly to Tagaytay, and I showed them around, and I realized that Taal is really overrated. I like Tagaytay, but the restos are damn pricey, even if the view and the breeze is lovely. And what the heck is espasol made of? And why are the people there always trying to force us to buy those sticky little things? I’m sorry, but I’ve only tasted it once and don’t really care much for it.

I do love to hang out there once in a while, and that’s the perk of working where I’m working. It’s a measly 30mins away, mas o menos. Still I liked Tagaytay when it was less crowded with those establishments. It seemed more like a place I wanted to escape to. Now the place makes me want to become anti-establishment. And that’s a shame coz I love Starbucks :p

BAND NIGHT

Sunday, August 7th, 2005

I was driving home earlier and caught JAM sessions on radio who featured a band called Nitya Lila (?). Not sure actually how it’s spelled or if that’s the exact name. But I liked them. I’m making a mental note to look them up. They sound like Cynthia Alexander. Ethnic or something. Haha. Sorry, don’t know what that genre is called. But luv ‘em. Nice peace song at the end of the show.

A little later, as I was flipping stations, I heard that Sheila and the Insects were going to play in RT Sunday Sessions. The 1st time I ever listened to this show was when they featured Cueshe, who is one of my favorite bands now. Both bands are from Cebu. Love your own. Hehe. Unfortunately, I never got to hear SATI play because by the time the band flourished, I was already based in Manila. But I did get a chance to meet the vocalist back in our tibak days, and I have heard him play the guitar and sing Nirvana songs and I was totally smitten. Intelligent and talented. Hahahaha… Hope Bisoy won’t find his way in this blog ;)

Anyhoo, I’m listening to them now, and yap, as the Cebuanos would say "WAYOK!!". They are an indie band and I always have a great respect for indie artists. They are really good and I love that they have stood their ground as a local band and refuse to compromise their principles.. (But having gotten to know Bisoy a while back, I’m not at all surprised)… Their fourth album called Flowerfish is now out. I’m planning to get a copy soon. Palit sad mo ha? :)
